For those of you who don’t know I am currently 15 weeks, at the beginning of my second trimester. Unfortunately I have been experiencing plenty of nausea and all day sickness, so I was looking for something that would relax me physically and mentally. I went on groupon to see if i could find a good spa deal and fortunately for me I found something better. Serene Dreams in Kearny, NJ, a floating health and wellness center featuring i-sopod isolation tanks. Where I experienced sensory deprivation for the first time. Many of you might be wondering what is Floating ? Floating is a uniquely alluring therapeutic experience that enhances your mental and physiological health. It is a great way to heal and soothe your body from everyday stress. The water is as dense as the Dead Sea, where one can float effortlessly on the surface, it actually takes more effort to reach the bottom of the tank than to float. The water is filled with epsom salt and the temperature of the water is the same as skin temperature, making it easy for you to enter the state of sensory deprivation. There are many benefits to floating therapy such as stress reduction, improving sleep cycles, boost circulation, improve immune system, relieve pain ect. Click here for an extended list of benefits.
I arrived for my appointment and was immediately greeted by a wonderful and very informative staff member who checked me in and took me to my room where they explained the process of what to do before , during and after. The room was equipped with a stand up shower and the i-sopod. I rinsed off , everyone must rinse off before entering the tank, then I placed my ear plugs so I wouldn’t get water in my ears and put on vaseline on top of my eyebrows to prevent water from dripping down into my eyes which they provide. After snapping some quick photos so I could then show you on here, I entered the tank nude, which is recommended to achieve the state of sensory deprivation. The water was just right, it wasn’t hot like a hot tub and it wasn’t cold, it was perfect. You have the choice of leaving the tank door open and the lights on, but I wanted the full expirience so i chose to shut the lid and lights off. I immediately got comfortable and let my body go. For the first 10 min, they play music to get your mind in a state of relaxation, after about 10 min or so the music stops. The music made me feel like I was outside listening to the sound of nature and animals. As you can see by the photos the tanks are very large and spacious, I had enough room to sway back and forth both horizontal and vertical with my arms stretched out.
I floated for 60 min in which I believe I fell asleep,it’s hard to explain because I felt so relaxed that I forgot I was in water, it was as if my body and the water become one. For the first time in my life I experienced total relaxation, it was just me, myself and I. No computer screens, no cellphone, no noise just peace and quiet. My mind was blank, no worries no stress, I had entered a stage of total tranquility. Once the 60 min were over i got out took a shower and got dressed. I felt so relaxed and calm. I had been waking up at least 2-3 times during the night prior to floating. For the next few days I slept like a baby, I didn’t wake up once during the night. I can feel my body much more relaxed and i’ll be booking my next appointment in the next few weeks. It’s definitely an experience I recommend everyone to try. If you do decide to try it, let me know how it goes. I would love to hear your experience firstname.lastname@example.org.
